Swim Around NZ - October Update PDF Print E-mail

It's been 6 months since we started the "quest". All those lengths up and down the pool (some more than others) are now starting to pay off as the summer swim season begins to kick off. If you've been committed to the challenge, you will start to notice the health and fitness benefits of the extra swimming you are doing, and of course you are contributing to the target of swimming all 15,134 km's

If you haven't started putting your distances in yet, it's not too late to join in and help out.  Any distances you have swum in the last 6 months can be included. Indeed this month we have had a number of new people join in, some adding large distances to the total. So go ahead and challenge yourself to increase those lengths, and see just how far you can swim.

Participation is easy. Log onto the website (NZMS members only), and click on the menu item under the Health and Fitness menu. Each time you swim some lengths after the 1st May 2008, just add up the distance and submit it online - and that's it. Results are summarised monthly here on the website.

So what are you waiting for - get swimming, and get involved. See here for more details and the submission form. lock.jpg

Logon to see this months results, including the name of the club who has hit the 1000K mark.

Congratulations go to Masterton, who in the last six months have put together a huge 1000km's. As many will know, Masterton is not the biggest club we have in the country, so to be the first to reach this milestone is a huge effort. Well done to you, thanks for taking up the challenge,  and keep it up!

For other clubs, it's not too late to catch Masterton - you just need to convince a few of your clubmates to join in and help out, and it will improve their fitness along the way.

We have two swimmers getting close to eligibility for their first distance awards. Distance awards are available when you swim 500km's, 1000km's,  2000km's  etc. so keep swimming those lengths. Total distance is just over 5100km's which is just over a third of the way there. To put that in perspective, collectively we've swum:

  • From Auckland to Scott Base (anyone thinking the water was getting cold!)
  • From Auckland to Perth
  • From Wellington to Adamstown (one for the trainspotters!)
