FINA Swimming and Open Water Rules
It's sometimes useful just to review the FINA rules for strokes. Rules change, and often we only hear about the major changes. If you are interested Fina has published the latest version (2009 to 2013) of the swimming rules, and the latest version of the open water swimming rules.

Young and Lockhart Outstanding at Aussie Nationals

New Zealand Swimmers, Barry Young and Richard Lockhart, left the Australians in their wake, at the recently held National Aussie Masters Swimming Championships. Barry Young secured 4 world records in the 70 to 74 age group (to be ratified). To help put this effort in perspective, two of the records were at least 5 years old, with the 400 IM record being thrashed by 35 seconds. Barry also picked up an additional NZ record in the 50m fly for his efforts.

Richard Lockhart also improved his national record, becoming the first man in NZ, in the 45 to 49 yrs age group, to swim under 1:10 for the 100m Breast stroke.

Congratulations to you both. Full details and times follow.

Masters Swimmer earns Oceania Medal

New Zealand will have a Masters swimmer in the 2006 team for that year’s world open water championships in Italy.

Masterton’s Kirsten Cameron, 32, earned her spot after finishing third in the 10km open water swim at the Oceania Championships in Cairns yesterday. Cameron, who holds numerous national Masters’ records, was the leading New Zealander, finishing in 2hr 26min 17sec to claim the bronze medal.

Cameron, who swims for Wellington's Capital club, and Masterton Masters, will also compete in the Masters World Championships in San Francisco next month before heading to Naples for the world open water swim.
