Social aspects of Masters Swimming in New Zealand

Although swimming can often be referred to as an unsocial sport, this is only true if you are swimming by yourself. Masters Swimming offers the opportunity to swim with like minded individuals focussed on increasing fitness and water skills. Masters Swimmers range from social swimmers that spend much of the swim session leaning on the end of the pool having a chin wag with their swimming mates, right through to elite swimmers  in their own right.

However when the training stops and the swim meet is over, all masters swimmers make up for all that training time in the pool. Any masters event is not complete without a chance to celebrate success, failure and just making it to the pool for one more swim. Many friendships have been forged through attendance at major meets, and each year the meets are rerun, it's often the only time in a year that old friends will get to catch up with each other.

So if you haven't taken the opportunity to, join up and start coming along to swim meets. It's a great opportunity to meet new people and experience the three key principles this is masters swimming in New Zealand - fun, fitness, and friendship.
