Swim Around NZ - May Update
This month sees another milestone reached - yes in the last year, we have collectively swum over 10,000km's . That's a huge effort by 48 swimmers. On average that's 221Km's each. Just shows you what can be acheived by setting your goals and pulling together as a team. Well done to all involved. New swimmers continue to join in each month, and it's not too late to add your distances in. Just go to the entry form, read the details, and submit your distances. If you haven't already, isn't it about time you took up the challenge! This months summary follows:

Young and Lockhart Outstanding at Aussie Nationals

New Zealand Swimmers, Barry Young and Richard Lockhart, left the Australians in their wake, at the recently held National Aussie Masters Swimming Championships. Barry Young secured 4 world records in the 70 to 74 age group (to be ratified). To help put this effort in perspective, two of the records were at least 5 years old, with the 400 IM record being thrashed by 35 seconds. Barry also picked up an additional NZ record in the 50m fly for his efforts.

Richard Lockhart also improved his national record, becoming the first man in NZ, in the 45 to 49 yrs age group, to swim under 1:10 for the 100m Breast stroke.

Congratulations to you both. Full details and times follow.

Swim Around NZ - April Update

This month we have our first million meter swimmer of the event - congratulations to Steven Sexton, who in the past 12 months has swum over 1 million meters - a fantastic effort, and a major contribution to our efforts. This month, Steven has managed to widen the gap on fellow swimmers, but the distances between the next few swimmers is shaping up to be a real battle as we head into our 2nd year of swimming. There are also some interesting battles going on further down the table. Who will come out on top will be anyones guess.

Congratulations to all on hanging in there for the first 12 months. When the event started we really had no idea how long it would take, so to hit the 12 month milestone, still have a large number of swimmers taking part, and even some new names popping in in the last month is an achievement in itself. If you haven't put your distances in yet, it's still not too late. Any swimming you do from the 1st May 2008 will count, and we only stop when we get round the coast of NZ. That's 15,134Km's of coastline to cover, so get your distances in and join in the fun.
